For more than three decades, Guðbjörg has explored clay through form, texture and material. Working from her studio in Reykjavík, every piece is designed and
thrown by her hand, one at a time.

Her work is deeply connected to the Icelandic landscape. Growing up surrounded by lava, Guðbjörg developed an enduring fascination with the raw materials, muted colours and imperfect surfaces of the land around her.

That connection became part of the material itself. Guðbjörg developed her own method of blending volcanic ash from Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula into
porcelain, creating a distinctive surface in which the landscape is not simply
an inspiration,  it becomes part of the object. 

No two pieces are exactly alike.

Subtle variations in shape, tone and texture reveal the hand that made them and the material they came from. From sculptural objects to pieces intended for
everyday use, ker. brings together art, function and a sense of place.
